Erik Lamela has had a great start to the season, finally delivering on the promise that saw Spurs pay a club record £30 Million for his services. He was arguably the man of the match in our demolition of QPR, changed the game in Tottenham’s favour with two assists when he came on as a substitute against AEL Limassol and even scored a wonderful goal against World Champions Germany, when called up by Argentina on Friday. A far cry from his injury hit performances last season.

Spurs transfer window review – a stronger squad but no new striker

On the face of it, this was a reasonable transfer window for Spurs, certainly if you like a bargain. First the positives.

We bought players in several of the key positions that needed strengthening, primarily left back and central defence. We also now have a reserve goalkeeper who isn’t in his forties.

Poll results – Spurs fans view the new season with optimism

I polled readers before the start of the season, to find out Spurs fans expectations for the new campaign. Thanks to the 628 who participated.

The results inidicate supporters are optimistic about the team’s chances – over 92.5% of those who took part think Tottenham will achieve the same place or better than last season.

Poll: Where do you think Spurs will finish this season?

In my last post, I predicted a sixth place finish for Spurs – although with the caveat that it would be a “better sixth”.

This may be a little pessimistic but I am trying to avoid falling into the usual pattern of: getting swept up in a new wave of optimism because of new signings/a new manager/irrational hope, only for the disappointment and depression to have returned by Christmas.

The new Premier League season starts this weekend. With lots of new signings and several managerial changes, many teams will be optimistic, but how long will that optimism last?

After correctly predicting this summer’s World Cup final, I thought I’d have a go at forecasting the top positions in this year’s league – including where I think Spurs are likely to end up – as well as previewing the likely contenders.
