Some additional thoughts on yesterdays game:
Spurs’ fullbacks looked much better going forward than defending in this game, perhaps because they spent a lot of time up the field. Both earned assists as they overlapped against a Swansea team that play most of their football in the middle of the pitch. Rose in particular does not look solid and we should aim to add a left back in the transfer window, even if it’s just a recall for Assou-Ekotto.
In the first 20 minutes our central pair were outplayed by Swansea’s slick passing game. We were crying out for someone (maybe Capoue) to add a bit of bite. Once the goal went in this changed. Dembele in particular started breaking up passing moves and feeding our forward players. One fantastic run ended in an unfortunate miss with an unmarked Adebayor screaming for a pass.
I don’t know what to make of Bentaleb. He’s one of those players whose talents can get overlooked because he does the simple things well to glue the team together and keep everything moving. He has done very well considering his inexperience, and it may be just a natural bias towards the dramatic, but I can’t help but think we need Sandro back in his place.
Is Sherwood best placed to judge the young midfielder because of his time developing our youth prospects or does nepotism have a part to play?
