What will new signing Eric Dier bring to Spurs?

Eric Dier

Spurs sprung a surprise this week, as they reached an agreement to sign 20-year-old centre back, Eric Dier, from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £4 Million fee. New manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has been on the look-out for a central defender – Tottenham have been linked with a succession of candidates from Toby Alderweireld to Ron Vlaar. Will the new signing fit the bill?

Why is he right for Spurs?

Pochettino’s Spurs XI and two areas we need to strengthen

Pochettino tactics

Using the way Pochettino’s Southampton side was set up and the few pre-season games we have already played, we can start to piece together an idea of how the new manager’s Tottenham team might look.

I have long bemoaned Continue reading

Spurs transfer requirements – Ben Davies to fill urgent need

Spurs target Ben Davies

Somewhat disappointingly Spurs are yet to enter the transfer market this summer. There is an obvious need for some stability after the upheaval of 12 months ago, but with a new manager and several weaknesses in the squad, one or two signings would still be welcome. Daniel Levy has a tendency to leave deals till the last minute, trying to get the best financial result but this is often a false economy, destabilising the team during the early part of the season.

Before considering any new players, Tottenham must first Continue reading

Spurs new Stadium gets the go ahead – why it’s so important

New Spurs Stadium

This week Spurs finally got the go ahead to start work on a new 56,250 seat stadium. First announced way back in December 2008, the project has been beset by red tape and delays ever since.

2008 was the year Lehman Brothers folded and the global financial crisis first hit home, not a great Continue reading
