Looking at statistics from the first four rounds of Premier League action I came across this rather interesting table of the five players with the most “key passes” this season. A “key pass” is one that leads to a shot, so it gives an idea of how many chances a player has created.
The usual suspects feature here: Henrik Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Ben Davies …. hang on, Ben Davies!
The Spurs’ left back was a revelation on Saturday. Freed from some of his defensive duties by Pochettino’s move to three at the back he caused Everton all sorts of problems overlapping on the left.
He saw his saved shot followed up by Erisken for a goal, set up Kane’s second, and had more touches then any other Spurs player.
Pochettino singled him out for special praise after the game – “He’s a great player but today he was fantastic”.
Let’s hope this is a sign of things to come.
